What's the plan? New Orleans is taking steps to protect its drinking water when the salt wedge arrives up the Mississippi River later this month. Monday was the deadline for bids to build a pipeline for the city’s main plant, which could cost anywhere between $100 million to $250 million, and possibly even higher. Many of the details are still under wraps, but Mike Smith reports on what we know.
Hotels prepare: New Orleans hotels are gearing up for the saltwater crisis, stocking up on water, installing reverse osmosis filtration systems and taking other steps to prepare. They say they can handle the logistical challenges of the crisis, but they're afraid of the likely financial burden, particularly as the industry comes out of its weakest summer in decades.
