I love football, and I spend a lot of time reading about it, watching it and listening to sports radio. A lot of fans, including myself, have been complaining about the low-scoring primetime games, but it turns out it's a league-wide issue. I stumbled across an article on Yahoo Sports by Jori Epstein that said this season's average total points scored per game through the first seven games is the lowest it's been since 2010. Epstein also examined potential causes and shared some interesting findings.

This week, I had the opportunity to dive a little deeper into those disappointing offensive stats while I wrote about Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Arguably the two best quarterbacks in the league, Rodgers and Brady are having the worst seasons of their careers. Whether any of Epstein's findings are the cause or not, it's obvious the two are not playing up to their usual standard.

Speaking of great quarterbacks, I saw an adorable interview Steve Young had with Emmy Eaton, the daughter of East Idaho News reporter Nate Eaton. The quarterback discussed his new book "The Law of Love," how he handles anxiety and the moment his teammate and future Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott had his back early in his career. I'm now thinking of checking out the book.

‘I didn’t know how bad it was’: What students learned from Utah’s shriveling Great Salt Lake

A group of about 100 high school students from Horizonte Instruction and Training Center visited Antelope Island to learn about the Great Salt Lake and its impact on their communities. Several of the students left the trip concerned about the lake's fate, including junior Nayeli Lazareno.

"I didn't know how bad it was," she said. "Coming here, it shows you a different perspective of everything."

Some of Horizonte's teachers are looking for ways for students to take what they learned and raise awareness of the lake's impact on health.

"So we're just hoping that this trip will really impact their lives in a way that will inspire them to help inform others and hopefully to protect their own health and give them ways to change actions, either on a higher level or even just in their own communities," Nisie Antacle, a teacher at Horizonte, said.

What Utahns in Congress are saying about the attack on Paul Pelosi

As tensions around the midterm elections run high, an intruder broke into the San Francisco home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacked her husband Paul.

The intruder shouted “Where is Nancy?” The Speaker was in Washington D.C. at the time of the attack.

Utah's members of congress condemned the use of violence:

“The worst fear for a member of Congress is that our work would put our family in harm’s way,” Rep. John Curtis, R-Utah, said in a tweet. “My heart and prayers reach out to the Pelosi family and I hope for Mr. Pelosi’s speedy recovery.”
“There is no place for this type of appalling behavior in this country,” Rep. Chris Stewart, R-Utah, tweeted. “Democrat, Republican or otherwise, we are all Americans. My prayers are with the entire Pelosi family, and I wish Mr. Pelosi a speedy recovery.”
