Boris Johnson says all Scots 'expect mutual co-operation' ahead of Scotland visit

Boris Johnson has insisted all Scots “expect mutual co-operation” across the UK ahead of his first visit north of the Border in six months.

Speaking ahead of his visit to Scotland on Thursday, the Prime Minister claimed the crisis had shown the strength of a United Kingdom.

The First Minister called for the PM to consider whether a trip north was vital and suggested there should not be different rules for the public and politicians.

Finance secretary Kate Forbes says her Scottish budget today will be “the most important in the history of devolution" as she prepares to unveil her spending plans for the year ahead.

Ms Forbes will set out a £40 billion spending package for 2021/22, including measures to help drive Scotland's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Support for the public sector and protecting jobs will be at the heart of the plans, the SNP minister says.

Nicola Sturgeon plea amid SNP trans row

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon insisted transphobia should be treated with ‘zero tolerance’ and was ‘not acceptable’ as she made an unscripted video statement amid a deepening row within the SNP.

In her statement posted on Wednesday evening, Ms Sturgeon said: “I don’t have much time for anything other than the fight against Covid right now but on some days silence is not an option.”

It follows reports of “significant numbers” of young people leaving the party over trans rights during the day.
