Here we are — back at it after a Thanksgiving like no other and right back to wondering about COVID-19 positivity rates and how it affects our kids and their education, among everything else.
And if the school closures-to-opening reversal that happened in New York City this past week are any indication, no one really knows how to read the percent positive rates and what to really do about it. That’s why I found this piece by senior reporter Catherine Pearson so helpful: She lays out what parents should know and take into consideration as cases continue to spike around the country.
It’s not a panacea — I don’t think anyone has that! — but this article does provide science-backed insight into what we, as parents, should know right now. As always, good luck out there and stay safe. |

Call me lazy, call me Scrooge, I just don’t care for the Elf on the Shelf. So I wrote a little something that could liberate you from the nightly “where to put the damn thing” moment, especially during this hellscape of a year. |

For when your kid is keeping you awake... |

Psychologists have long maintained that getting kids to draw their fears and deepest thoughts can help them understand and work through it. So this UK-based organization asked kids to draw what they think COVID-19 looks like. The pictures are admittedly hilarious, but there’s something deeper to this project. I love this piece by my colleagues at HuffPost UK because it also helps to explain how you can get your kids to draw their feelings, too. |
