Pet owners are increasingly looking to add features in their homes designed for pets, such as built-in water bowl spigots, feeding stations, crates, litter boxes, baths, playhouses and sunrooms, and sociology research professor Andrea Laurent-Simpson expects the trend to continue. People whose children have grown and moved out often think of pets as family members, and some millennials and members of Generation Z are getting pets instead of having children, Laurent-Simpson says.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case of Geraldine Tyler, a Minnesota woman who lost her home after failing to pay $2,300 in local property taxes. "When the government takes more than it is owed in taxes, that's home equity theft," said Tyler's attorney, Christina Martin of the Pacific Legal Foundation.
