Despite the International Olympic Committee repeatedly shuffling around the 2030 Winter Games bid announcement, is has pushed it back even further, likely to 2024. This leads some to believe that it may make a joint announcement for the 2030 and 2034 Winter Games.
This delay also gives more time for Sapporo, which some say is the IOC's favored candidate, to get past the bribery scandal that has gotten in the way of a successful bid.
Salt Lake City is still in the running to play host to the 2030 Winter Games and Utah's bid team is still hard at work.
Fraser Bullock, president and CEO of the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games, said, “We believe we have all the pieces to be a fantastic host of the Games, either in 2030 or 2034.”
This decision has been long in the making, with its roots reaching back to 2018.
