You may remember that the Senate passed a bill in March to make daylight saving time permanent, and I've been joyfully spreading the good news ever since. But even though 71% of Utahns say they support adopting a permanent time year-round, we're less decisive about whether we prefer daylight saving time or standard time.
Personally, I would be happy to simply stop changing my clock (and helping a grumpy toddler adjust to the change) twice a year.
What does wildfire danger have to do with the affordable housing crisis in the West?
Concerns about wildfires and affordable housing have both been increasing.
What do the two issues have to do with each other? Here are some examples from across the West:
A judge ruled that Santee, California, has to forgo its plans for a large housing project because there was concern about whether residents of the potential community would be able to evacuate safely in the event of a wildfire, according to SFgate.com.
Boulder, Colorado, newspaper The Daily Camera reported that a local effort to create higher-density, more affordable housing "could conflict with efforts to reduce risk from wildfires."
As Sofia Jeremias reported for the Deseret News, the West has experienced problems with the power grid failing due to wildfires, posing additional risks to housing near wildfires.

At the party's convention this Saturday, a faction of Utah Democrats plans to put forth a motion to back independent candidate Evan McMullin rather than a Democratic U.S. Senate nominee. It would be the first maneuver of its kind in Utah's history.
Some high-profile Utah Democrats, including former Congressman Ben McAdams and Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, have thrown their support behind McMullin. McAdams said he thinks the motion has a fair chance of passing.
It’s been more than 50 years since a Utah Democrat last won a U.S. Senate race (when Frank Moss won in 1970 with 56% of the vote).
