Last Friday, after the regular newsletter went out, we did a different type of video. Instead of doing our regular "RockSim Live Training," we did a live session showing how we make our rocketry training videos (see it here). Basically, we showed how all the cameras are positioned, the lighting, and the studio where we make rocketry videos. It was all done "LIVE," so that you can get a sense of how much effort goes into the production of our rocketry videos. In fact, we filmed two short videos during the live session that will be used in our Draco BG build series. So in a sense, we had a live audience for the taping of the show. How fun was that! Our regular RockSim Live video will be at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. On Tuesday, we also sent out our 392nd rocket build video. It was Part 7 of the TTV rocket video instruction series. In the video, we put fin fillets on the fins to lock them to the tube and to create aerodynamic fairings that actually smooth out the airflow and reduce the drag of the rocket. Then you'll see in the video the attachment the launch lug and finally we'll attach the parachute tube and the nose cone to the fin-can using the shock cord. This is a different method of attaching the shock cord than you probably used in other rockets. It allows quick disassembly so you can inspect things between flights better. This morning, we released a YouTube short video. It is only 25 seconds long, and shows the recent flight of the QuickDraw rocket kit. It was made by our new graphic artist Ryan Conway with the help of Allie Blair (you talk to her when you call us for customer service). Why the video? We are playing around with our social media accounts and want to post some content on a more regular basis. Let us know what you think of them. Rocketry Tool of the Month - 20pc Micro Drill Set
On Monday, we actually sold out of our 20pc Micro Drill Bit Set, which was our September tool-of-the-month. This was the first time this has ever happened, so we were unprepared for this outcome. But thank you to everyone that participated in the special offer. We're working on our October offer right now, and I'm worried that it will also sell out quickly. So as soon as October 1 comes, make sure to visit our website to get details. What is Coming Up Next Week? Next Tuesday will be another Peak-of-Flight newsletter. This one features an article by Martin Jay Mckee that documents the development of the Draco BG rocket kit that we just release a few weeks ago. It tells where the inspiration for the kit came from, how it was designed, then re-designed based on the flight tests, and even where the name came from. It is a fun article that gives you a peek into what making a complex rocket kit is like. I'm also putting together another blog article in the series called "Tim's Messy Desk." It's purpose is to invite you into my world and what it is like to run a rocket company. Check your email inbox next Tuesday. |
