May is CalFresh Awareness Month, and ensuring that people have access to nutritious food is more urgent than ever. CalFresh EBT (or SNAP, as it is known federally) provides critical aid to help 5 million food-insecure Californians put healthy food on the table. However, as California faces a budget deficit, this successful statewide program is in danger of being completely cut, which would be devastating for food-insecure families and small and mid-sized family farms.

CalFresh Giveaway at Mission Community Market

To close out CalFresh Awareness Month, Foodwise will be giving away Mission Community Market totes to the first 15 shoppers using CalFresh at Mission Community Market on Thursday, May 30. We will also be hosting a kids coloring activity and offering cost-conscious market-based recipes.

Sustainability Service Corps is accepting applications for the AmeriCorps 11-month fellowship program, with Foodwise as a host partner site. The program offers a monthly stipend, healthcare benefits, UC Climate Stewards certification, and a $10,000 Education Award.

Mission Community Market: Featured Vendors

Hummus Heaven works with California farms to bring their seasonally inspired hummus to the Mission on Thursday and the Ferry Plaza on weekdays.

In the Mission on Thursdays and at the Ferry Plaza on Tuesdays and Saturdays, visit Yerena Farms for strawberries and raspberries, with squash on the way.
