INDUSTRY NEWS

NATIONAL: Ignite2021, an event professional workshop, will take place July 1 and is set to host a panel of speakers and training on the platform Goldcast. It’s the second edition of the event, which was launched by agency emc3 in 2020 to support out-of-work marketing and event professionals; this year, emc3 will host the virtual event in partnership with AMTEvents. The event will also offer networking opportunities, a production masterclass and entertainment provided by SongDivision. 

The “Stars In The House” event series, created by producers Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, is nearing $1 million raised in support of The Actors Fund, which has aided over 16,300 people in the performing arts community who are struggling in response to COVID. Upcoming programming for the daily event series includes a virtual reunion of stars from Dreamgirls and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

CHICAGO: Springhill Suites by Marriott has opened a new hotel in Chicago’s Chinatown. The all-suite property, located at 2357 South Wentworth Ave., features 148 suites, a fitness room, a boardroom, a complimentary buffet and an expansive lobby. Corporate and leisure travelers can venture around the neighborhood to visit local attractions such as the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, the Nine Dragon Wall and Ping Tom Memorial Park. 

NEW YORK: The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are set to return to New York on Sept. 12. The awards will be broadcast live from the Barclays Center, with performers and celebrity appearances to be announced at a later date. Leading up to the show, MTV will collaborate on service-oriented events with 9/11 Day in observance of the 20th anniversary of September
11, 2001.

SEATTLE: The ninth annual Freakout Festival has announced its 2021 lineup. From Nov. 11-14, Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood will host over 70 performers, with headliners including Cedric Burnside and Liz Cooper, across seven venues. Additional information on community engagement, special events and more is expected to be announced in the future.
