This past weekend, 65-year-old Bernhard Langer birdied five of his last seven holes to win the Chubb Classic and tie Hale Irwin’s record of 45 career PGA Tour Champions victories. Suffice to say, Langer has found the secret to longevity and good golf.
It’s a question our editor-in-chief, Jerry Tarde, has reflected on, consulting golfers, doctors and celebrities to track down the secret. Could it be Sam Snead’s practical advice on making a full turn with good tempo? Or Clint Eastwood’s refusal to “let the old man in?” Maybe the secret is in Nick Price's sensible wisdom: “Spend more time with the people who make you laugh, and always have something to look forward to.” Perhaps the secret isn’t a singular philosophy but the summation of many simple daily habits—a pair of comfortable shoes, a nice glass of wine and an afternoon nap.
