More Baton Rouge-area news inside
with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editorAh, where to begin? A tropical storm will likely roll into the Gulf in the next few days, our coronavirus numbers are still out of control and students are heading back to classrooms in East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes. And there's a lot of other news too. Tropical Storm Fred formed overnight. The latest guidance from the National Hurricane Center has the storm moving into the Gulf sometime Saturday morning and then striking the Florida Panhandle east of Pensacola sometime Monday. So far only little bits of Louisiana are in the forecast "cone." Louisiana deaths are beginning to pick up after an increase in COVID cases and hospitalizations over the last five or six weeks. State health leaders fear a catastrophe if things don't change soon. Most K-12 students in the Baton Rouge area are back in classrooms this week. Some of their teachers will receive pay raises above the jump delivered by the state, as Charles Lussier reports. |
