| Why Eating Less Doesn't Always Work |
|
I’m on record as saying that my goal is to figure out how few calories I can eat and still thrive. Still, eating less isn’t always the magic bullet people will hope it will be. For weight loss, the advice to “eat less, exercise more” often doesn’t work like it “should” on paper. The weight-loss diet industry thrives on repeat customers who struggle to lose weight and keep it off. Dutifully following this strategy has led many people down the road to frustration and dejection, as they blame themselves for their failure to successfully lose weight. This is despite their best efforts to eat less. From a health perspective, eating less is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, caloric restriction may promote longevity. On the other hand, long-term or severe calorie restriction can cause serious health problems, including nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and muscle loss. In this article, we dive deep into some of the ways that restricting calories can go wrong—or simply be ineffective—as well as ways to eat less to actually promote health. Read More |

| | Why Am I Getting Low Ketone Readings? |
|
Even after publishing several books and hundreds of articles that draw upon the science of ketosis and low-carb living, I keep researching, thinking, revisiting, and discussing the underpinnings of ketosis. Why do some people on a keto diet register high ketones while others eating the same way register low numbers? I won’t offer definitive answers fit to etch into stone. This article offers my exploration of the research, some educated speculation, and actionable advice you can ruminate on. Learn More |

Easy BBQ "Meatza" Pizza Recipe |
|
Have you ever heard of a meatza? It’s the low-carb, grain-free answer to pizza cravings once you’ve adopted a keto, paleo, Primal, or Whole 30® way of living. The best part is, they’re versatile and easy to make! Ingredients Meatza "Crust" - 1.5 lbs ground chicken thigh
- 1/3 cup + 2 tbsp fine almond flour
- 1/2 tbsp coconut flour
- 1 tsp Primal Kitchen® Avocado Oil
- ½ tsp ea. salt, black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika
- 1 egg
Toppings - 1/4 cup Primal Kitchen Mango Jalapeno BBQ Sauce
- 1/4 cup sliced onion
- 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Optional additional toppings: avocado, pineapple, mango, cilantro
Preheat your oven to 400F. Mix all of the "crust" ingredients together in a bowl. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper. Divide the meat mixture into two and make two round flattened patties about 1/2” thick. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip the meatzas over and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until their internal temperature is at least 165F. After cooling for a few minutes, spread the BBQ Sauce on the meatzas. Add toppings and broil until the cheese is melted. Enjoy! |
