Hi there,
Thanks for your time this morning.
Disney told investors this week that its brand new streaming service, Disney+, hit 60.5 million total subscribers, mainly in the U.S. and in the handful of international markets where it has a presence. As context, Netflix just hit 193 million total subscribers across all markets.
Still, it's a good pacing for Disney which said in April 2019, ahead of the service's launch, that it wanted to attract between 60 million to 90 million subscribers before 2024.
Those figures are a “direct result” of “us being all in from the beginning. We are really committed to this," former CEO Robert Iger said at the time.
Current CEO Bob Chapek told investors this week that the company would grow subscriptions by "having new, hot tentpole content."
