Last week, Hilary Bradt launched a Crowdfunder campaign to help publish the world's first guidebook to the Yemeni island of Socotra. It's been Hilary's number-one bucket-list destination for years, and she finally made a trip there just before lockdown. She and fellow Bradt author Janice Booth came home determined to write a guidebook to ensure this UNESCO-listed island receives the protection it needs. She's been overwhelmed by the response so far, and wants to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated. The campaign has reached 65% of its target, and any further support to get over the line is hugely appreciated.
If you want to learn more about this fascinating land of dragon's blood trees, chubby desert roses and candy-pink rocks, Janice Booth has given us the lowdown on what to expect from a trip to one of the world's most off-beat – and magical – destinations.
