Good morning, Marketer, and is Twitter back in business?
Our contributor Steve Petersen has an inspirational new article about finding marketing ideas all around you. Looks like Elon Musk stumbled serendipitously across the idea that maybe a social media platform that needs ad revenue should be run by someone who understands advertising and media (the blue tick subscription idea doesn’t seem to be panning out).
At time of writing it was not a done deal, but Linda Yaccarino has left her post as chair of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal and is widely reported to be Musk’s pick for a new Twitter CEO. Yaccarino is a serious player in the ad space, having led a 2,000 person team responsible for over $1 billion in ad sales. She’s the kind of person who just might be able to stop advertisers rushing for the exits.
People are scrambling, of course, to uncover her political leanings; we’ll surely hear more about that in days to come. Meanwhile, Musk seems to have made a rational move that might just make Twitter attractive to brands again. Although there’s nothing to stop him doing something to wreck it.
