Standing over the Pacific Coast Highway on a recent trip to Los Angeles, I observed two paths of cars move in evening traffic – north along the mountain and south along the coast.
On the surface, all the cars felt the same - the drivers were all on the same highway with the same sunset as their backdrop.
But, of course, each car was moving (some fast, others slow) toward a unique destination.
Similarly, do you ever get caught thinking there's only one "right" direction with art...
...one way to draw something, hold a paintbrush, or make meaningful art?
Of course, we all know that isn't true, but our minds can go there.
Some us might gravitate toward straightforward art, while others move toward something more subtle. Some find joy in realism, while others delight in abstraction.
The direction you move in, or that your child moves in, isn't what matters.
What matters is that you move with purpose and intention while following your intuition.
This is exactly why I created a different kind of art studio for kids – one where young artists don't just follow along but genuinely choose their path.
Some days, they might want to follow step-by-step guidance; others, they might want to venture off the beaten path and let their imagination guide them.
Both journeys are equally valuable, creative, and "right."
