Due to a technical issue, some subscribers may have received this email twice. Apologies! Can you believe Memorial Day Weekend begins tomorrow? It’s always my favorite weekend of the year because my birthday (May 31) sometimes falls on it, I’m usually in my hometown of South Norwalk, Connecticut with friends and family (see photo above from 2016) at the beach or a BBQ. The highlight is always attending our local parade and playing stickball.
Well, this year that obviously isn't happening so introducing my daughter to the people I’ve known the longest will have to wait. We were supposed to fly yesterday from Toronto to New York’s LaGuardia but we canceled our trip and I waited until Air Canada (AC) canceled the flight to get my money back. Surprisingly, AC refused to refund my money even though the DOT requires any carrier, foreign or not, to refund canceled flights within seven days, as long as the flight is to/from/within the United States of America. Here’s
my story which I just updated.
YouTube Channel and New Podcast One of the silver linings of this stay-at-home order is that I’m doing things that I’ve been putting off for years like starting a
YouTube series (please
subscribe to my channel). I’m interviewing big-time travelers like Josh Gates, Andrew McCarthy and many more. This week I added Comedian Dan Nainan, Brian Kelly (aka The Points Guy), Brett Snyder of Cranky Flier, Matthew Kepnes (aka Nomadic Matt), Ashley Colburn and Cory Lee to talk about his new book and accessible travel. Here's a roundup of
all my interviews.
I’ve Started a Podcast Another item I checked off of my goals list was to
start a podcast. I’ve been guests on many podcasts since they debuted, including Leo Laporte’s
The Tech Guy, which I’m on every Saturday at 12:30pmPT. When I sought Leo's advice before starting my own, he said to sign up to
Anchor.fm as, “they’re the YouTube for podcasts”. I did and it couldn’t have been any easier.
Johnny Jet’s Travel Podcast is now available in almost all the places podcasts are available including
Spotify, The Google Podcasts App,
Breaker,
RadioPublic … I’m just waiting for Apple Podcasts to approve my show, which now has 17 interviews. I’m using all of the audio from my 39 Travel Questions to begin with but I’m going to start weekly travel industry updates soon (maybe even today).
Travel News Roundups (Scroll Down) Speaking of travel news, there’s a ton of it so I created separate posts for each category (air, lodging, ground, cruise, domestic, international…) to help organize it. One of the most interesting stories is
which airlines are really blocking the middle seats.
