AND: The Cougars may have hit rock bottom, Lauren McCluskey is remembered through a 5K run and how to fight antisemitism.
Good morning, Utah Today readers! Here’s today’s forecast: 🌤️ 19 – 45° in Logan ⛅ 30 – 50° in Salt Lake City ⚠️ ☀️ 37 – 61° in St. George ⚠️ Hard freeze warning 🥶 My grandpa had a funny sense of humor. Every Independence Day, he would always walk around wishing everyone a “happy holidays.” It left people scratching their heads, but my family always thought it was hilarious. In honor of him, I start wishing everyone a happy holidays around Halloween and keep doing it until Valentine’s Day. 🎃 Speaking of which, Halloween is coming up! I love to see when people take their Halloween decorations as seriously as their Christmas decorations, so this “Stranger Things” house in South Jordan really made my day. 🐶 As most of us know, the holidays (Halloween included) can be stressful. I think my dog has noticed because the moment I get even remotely anxious, he comes dashing into the room and onto my lap like a superhero. Apparently, dogs can smell your stress hormones! Also on our minds: The Cougars may have hit rock bottom, Lauren McCluskey is remembered through a 5K run and how Latter-day Saints can fight antisemitism. |

| A recent study ranked 159 of the nation’s best schools by how politically and ideologically diverse they were, and BYU came in 26th for the most politically balanced school with 32% of students identifying as liberal, 20% moderate and 48% conservative. USU and the University of Utah were also in the top 50, ranking at 44th and 45th respectively. Senior research fellow at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) Sean Stevens says intellectual and political diversity matters in higher education because creating echo chambers can ultimately hurt students and cause them to “feel blindsided” when they leave college and “create caricatures” of those they disagree with.
