| It took a single day Thursday to find 18 jurors for the federal trial of the three ex-Minneapolis police officers charged with violating George Floyd’s constitutional rights while in police custody. A jury of 18 people eight men and 10 women will soon hear testimony in the federal trial of the three former Minneapolis police officers. Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng have pleaded not guilty to charges that they deprived Floyd of his civil rights when he was killed by Derek Chauvin in May 2020. Opening statements are expected Monday. | Gov. Walz suggests using part of $7.7 billion surplus money on "Walz checks."The DFL governor plans to push for $4.4 billion in tax cuts and pandemic worker awards, including some that would go out as tax rebate checks to most households. The rebates would be $175 for single tax filers. A new report reveals Hennepin County Sheriff Hutchinson was drunk driving at 126 mph. Thursday’s disclosure later led Gov. Tim Walz, a fellow Democrat, to say Hutchinson should step down from his elected post. This winter, one Minnesota school is launching "outdoor learning" for its kindergarteners. Hopkins kindergarten teacher Katie Schmidt says they have activities outside as long as it’s above minus 8 degrees, factoring in wind chill. Next year the school plans to start transitioning its first grade students to outdoor learning. | |
