Remember last Sunday morning when we thought there were so many injuries to keep track of for Week 2? Ah, we were so young. So naive. Week 3 features one of the most extensive injury reports I've ever seen for a Fantasy week, and it's full of big names who enter Sunday with little clarity as to what their status truly is. It makes setting your lineup even more difficult than normal. |
The Fantasy Football Today team is here to help. We're set up on all platforms to make sure we're answering as many of your questions as possible. Jamey Eisenberg, Dave Richard, and Heath Cummings are live on CBSSports HQ with Fantasy Football Today and we're also live on the FFT Twitch channel with Adam Aizer and I taking all of your questions from 11:30 through the start of the early games taking you questions. And, as always, you can email me at Chris.Towers@CBSInteractive.com with the subject line "#AskFFT" to get your questions featured here throughout the week. |

Injury Report Updates: Who's in, who's out? |
|
At least last week's injury report didn't feature many game-time decisions. Week 3's does, and the risk comes in that some of the biggest players' fates won't be known until well after the first lineups lock this afternoon. |
Here's who won't be playing in Week 3: |
Quarterback: Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), Tyrod Taylor (chest), Drew Lock (shoulder) |
Potential last-minute fill-in options (in order of how I would prioritize them): Ryan Tannehill vs. Vikings, Mitchell Trubisky vs. Falcons, Justin Herbert vs. Panthers |
Running back: Christian McCaffrey (ankle — on IR), Saquon Barkley (knee — out for the year), Raheem Mostert/Tevin Coleman (knee), Zack Moss (toe), Cam Akers (ribs), James White (personal) |
Potential last-minute fill-in options: Jeff Wilson vs. Giants, Rex Burkhead vs. Raiders, Dion Lewis vs. 49ers, Sony Michel vs. Raiders, Wayne Gallman vs. 49ers |
Wide receiver: Michael Thomas (ankle), Sterling Shepard (toe), A.J. Brown (knee), Courtland Sutton (knee), Christian Kirk (groin), Jamison Crowder (hamstring), Breshad Perriman (ankle), Jalen Reagor (thumb), Henry Ruggs (knee/hamstring), Parris Campbell (knee) |
Potential late-minute fill-in options: Russell Gage vs. Bears, Desean Jackson vs. Bengals, Golden Tate vs. 49ers, Marquez Valdes-Scantling vs. Saints, Mike Williams vs. Panthers, Tre'Quan Smith vs. Packers, Chris Hogan vs. Colts |
Tight end: George Kittle (knee) |
Potential late-minute fill-in options: Jordan Reed vs. Giants |
|
Boy … that's a lot of names, huh? If you're feeling overwhelmed, I've got some bad news for you: There are still a lot of big names left with question marks for Week 3, too. Here are the players who haven't been ruled out yet, beginning with the biggest question marks of the week: |
Game-time decision: Davante Adams (hamstring), Julio Jones (hamstring) |
You might be best served especially avoiding Adams with the late start. And, if you've got Jones, make sure you have Russell Gage on your bench to slide in if Jones is inactive. This could be a decoy game for both Adams and Jones, and both are risky plays even if they do suit up. |
Likely to play: Josh Jacobs (hip), Sammy Watkins (concussion), Kenny Golladay (hamstring), Jerry Jeudy (ribs), Julian Edelman (knee), Darren Waller (knee) Doubtful: Phillip Lindsay (toe), Justin Jackson (quad) |

Jim: Mike Davis or Kareem Hunt? |
It's going to be very hard for me to not start Davis as long as McCaffrey is out. He has the chops in the passing game and is a solid rusher, and I would expect he gets the vast majority of RB snaps and touches for at least the next three weeks. I think he's a borderline top-15 back and I would start him over Hunt. |
Aimee: Should I still play Henderson with Malcolm Brown "healthy?" Other RB options on waiver are Burkhead or Frank Gore. |
It's hard to say exactly what to expect from Brown. He's been the team's primary passing down's back in addition to his strong role in the running game and near the goal line, but with a fractured pinky, can he really be relied on to catch the ball? I think Henderson is the better play of this group in PPR, because it wouldn't surprise me if he was the lead back at least for this week. |
W.F.:Jerick McKinnon or Darrell Henderson? |
McKinnon is another player whose role just isn't clear as we'd like it to be. He's had a few big plays through two weeks, but he has just nine touches and has played only 32 snaps in two games. His snap share and touches should both go up, but I'd be surprised if he was the true lead lead back here, so he'll need a few receptions or big plays. I think I lean Henderson, but know I seem to be lower on McKinnon's role than just about anyone else. |
Charles: I have Jarvis Landry in my WR3 slot behind Godwin and JuJu but have Corey Davis on my bench. Should I start Davis against a suspect Minnesota secondary over Landry? Is he finally ready to step up with A.J. Brown still out? |
I don't feel confident in Davis at all, and I could see this being a game where both the Vikings and Titans run the ball the majority of the time — Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak identified running the ball as one thing he wants to improve from the first two games. Still, I think I would rather have him over Landry in a game where the Browns may not need to throw the ball much either. |
Joseph: I am stuck deciding between starting Kareem Hunt and Joshua Kelly as my second RB this week. Miles Sanders is my RB1 this week. Both McCaffrey and Mostert are on my roster... |
Kelley is Jamey's Start of the Week for Week 3, and he's sixth in the league in rush attempts and got more involved in the passing game with Justin Herbert in last week. I think it's close, but I think I would give Kelley the edge against this matchup. |
Bruce: Minshew killed me and need optimal points now more than ever in a PPR. Start three: Robert Woods, D.J. Moore, Chris Godwin, Allen Robinson, Diontae Johnson. |
You're starting the first three guys this week, and it's hard to see what kind of confluence of events would lead me in another direction beyond injuries or bye weeks. If this group comes out of this week healthy, I would look to trade Johnson assuming he has another good game. He could fetch quite a return. |
