The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

LSU put an energy deal in place with a couple of firms last night, but believes the public doesn't have a right to know how it came about. Its Board of Supervisors at the state's largest public university held secretive negotiations with the companies before approving the pact. Andrea Gallo tracked down some of the details -- LSU will pay $810 million for energy over the next 30 years, shelling out $27 million a year. (The board didn't disclose the price of the deal during its meeting.)

The new U.S. ambassador to the United States is a Baker native. The Senate yesterday approved Linda Thomas-Greenfield for the post.

The East Baton Rouge Metro Council meets again tonight, and again will talk about whether the parish should transition into some at-large positions and impose tighter term limits on the mayor. Previous council members didn't make changes after discussions, but this time around there are six different people at the table.

Thanks for checking in. I hope you have a chance to enjoy the gorgeous weather today, before the rain moves in. After last week, these recent days have been great.
