Who's on the hot seat?

Good morning, folks. Welcome to the Tuesday, July 2 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. The Fourth is right around the corner, so naturally let's talk about potential fireworks — for the Saints.

On the hot seat

The 2024 season is still months away, but it's never too early to talk about who could be on the hot seat. After looking at the most important Saints  last week, I took a look at who has the most at stake for New Orleans next season.

Reader, this is going to shock you: Dennis Allen leads the list.

Here's the gist of what I wrote: "The Saints have changed the quarterback, the defensive coordinator and the offensive coordinator under Allen. Normally, the coach becomes the next in line to lose his job if the results aren’t there."

Open practices

There's good news if you were hoping to catch a New Orleans Saints practice this summer: The team is hosting two local practices after they return from California this summer. Details are in the article, so check that out.

As a reminder, the Saints are holding training camp in Irvine later this month because of construction ongoing at their practice facility in Metairie. The Saints said Monday that they'll be traveling out west on July 22 and will return Aug. 19.

Tight ends

Our position previews continue with Luke Johnson looking at the tight ends. He tackled something I've been wondering myself: Just how big of a deal is Juwan Johnson's injury?

Luke writes: "Not having Johnson on the field for some or all of training camp will be a blow, there’s no doubt about that. This is an important season for Johnson, who is in the last year of his contract, and he is trying to find his place within Kubiak’s new offense. On top of that, it would have been helpful for him to continue working on his rapport with quarterback Derek Carr."

The rest of the preview is worth checking out. Anyway, that's all for now. Enjoy the holiday.

Take care,

Matthew Paras
