Two people were killed in a stabbing terror attack at London Bridge on Friday

Two people were killed after a man wearing a “hoax explosive device” went on a stabbing spree at London Bridge in a terror attack on Friday. Three other injured victims were treated in hospital, one of whom has been able to go home.

The suspect, 28-year-old Usman Khan, was shot and killed by police. He was a convicted terrorist, released on licence last year.

Questions are now being raised regarding why he was released, and how effectively he was being monitored.

As soon as the attack began, brave bystanders armed themselves with a fire extinguisher and a narwhal tusk and tackled the terrorist to the ground.

Here’s what we know about the victims:

👉Jack Merritt, 25, wrote his criminology dissertation on the overrepresentation of young men in the British prison system who are black, Asian, and from ethnic minorities.

👉Saskia Jones, 23, was passionate about criminal justice reform and helping victims, and had recently applied to a police graduate program and wanted to specialize in victim support.

Political fallout:

👉UK prime minister Boris Johnson ignored crucial facts about the London Bridge attacker to blame his political opponents, the UK’s Labour party.

👉A fake Jeremy Corbyn tweet went viral after the attack. The image alleged that the Labour party leader had written: "A man was murdered by British Police in Broad daylight." In fact, Corbyn tweeted to express concern for people caught up in the attack.

A video of a Chicago cop body-slamming a man on the street has sparked an investigation. The officer is seen grabbing a man and throwing him to the ground, causing his head to hit the sidewalk curb. The man lies motionless for the remainder of the video. The incident is being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

A 27-year-old Indian woman was allegedly raped and killed by four men who later burned her body. Protests erupted outside the city of Hyderabad on Saturday after police arrested the four men accused of the heinous crime. The brutal incident echoes the 2012 gang rape of a woman on a bus in Delhi.

Three teens were injured in a stabbing in the Dutch city of The Hague. The attack took place on Black Friday, in an area busy with shoppers. Police said the attack was not terrorism.

A white woman interrupted a Slave Play Q&A to call its black playwright racist. Jeremy O. Harris was taking questions following a performance of Slave Play, his new play that’s been called uncomfortable and thought-provoking. A white woman jumped from her seat and angrily accused the playwright of being “racist against white people.”

Typhoon Haiyan was the most powerful storm to ever make landfall when it smashed into the Philippines in 2013, killing up to 18,000 people. Since climate change made the storm more deadly, can the world’s biggest polluters be held responsible in court?

It’s a question that contains the toughest problems we have to answer about climate change. Was Haiyan a natural disaster? Warming oceans cause storms to grow more powerful, and global warming is caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

The Philippines is estimated to have contributed less than 1% of all greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere. So if the country didn’t play a significant part in warming the planet, who is responsible?

No one has successfully sued a fossil fuel company for climate impacts. But the Philippines Commission on Human Rights is expected to deliver a significant ruling: a declaration that the major carbon emitting firms have “negatively impacted the human rights of the Filipino people.”

What followed: Daniel’s frantic texts as he tried to track down the little guy. There was a point in the conversation where Steph had to say, “you shouldn’t skip work you are a lawyer and he is a hamster.”

When Steph shared her dad’s texts, they immediately went viral because of how pure they are.
