Monday, 23 January 2023 WHO Health Emergency Appeal launch On Monday, WHO will launch its Health Emergency Appeal for 2023. In 2023, the number of people in need of humanitarian relief has reached a record of 339 million. WHO launches its 2023 appeal, calling on donors for resources to respond to ongoing crises, including eleven graded at level 3. This support will enable assistance to be provided to millions people around the world currently facing humanitarian health emergencies, including disease outbreaks, hunger and lack of access to medical services. The launch will webcast on Monday, from 14:00 to 15:00 CET. The link to the live webcast will be available on this page and on Facebook Twitter LinkedIn YouTube Elimination of trans fat progress report A new status report from the World Health Organization (WHO) has found that billions of people globally remain unprotected by policies that eliminate harmful trans fat which increases their risk of heart diseases and death. While many countries have implemented best-practice policies for tackling trans fat in food, we are off track in terms of reaching the goal of total elimination in 2023. The report launch will take place online on Monday, from 15:30 to 16:30 CET. For further information, please contact 27-30 January 2023 Inaugural meeting of the WHO Youth Council The Youth Council is a newly established mechanism for meaningful youth engagement with WHO and provides direct advice to the Director-General. It is a dynamic network that will amplify the voices and experiences of young people, and leverage their expertise, energy and ideas to promote public health. The Youth Council serves as a platform for designing and incubating new initiatives and for expanding existing WHO youth initiatives. The Youth Council members will meet for the first time in-person at WHO Headquarters in Geneva to finalize work plans, engagement with WHO, and strategize on a roadmap for the way forward. Friday, 27 January 2023 Policy advice: National stockpiles for radiological and nuclear emergencies The World Health Organization (WHO) will publish its updated list of medicines that should be stockpiled for radiological and nuclear emergencies, along with policy advice for their appropriate management. These stockpiles include medicines that either prevent or reduce exposure to radiation, or treat injuries once exposure has occurred. The publication will supersede the 2007 WHO report Development of Stockpiles for Radiation Emergencies and will include updated information on the stockpile formulary based on the developments in radiation emergency medicine in the last decade. The new publication National stockpiles for radiological and nuclear emergencies: Policy advicewill be available on the WHO website from Friday, 27 January at 13:30 CET. 30 January - 7 February 2023 WHO’s 152nd Executive Board Meeting The 152nd session of the Executive Board (EB) will take place from 30 January – 7 February 2023, it will be preceded by the 37th meeting of its Programme, Budget and Administration Committee (PBAC) 25-27 January 2023.
