If confirmed, media advisory with dial-in details will be emailed in advance. 27 March 2023 Virtual press conference on the outcomes of the regular meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization Monday, 27 March at 16.00 CEST The Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) will hold a press conference on the outcomes of its regular (biannual) meeting held from 20 to 23 March 2023. Issues on the agenda included regional updates and deep dive on measles; WHO’s approach and methodology to identify priority pathogens for new vaccine development at the regional and global levels;roadmap for COVID-19 vaccination in the era of Omicron; and the status of new TB vaccine candidates intended for adults and adolescents with a focus on preparing the pathway for use. Global meeting on skin-related neglected tropical diseases 27 to 31 March The first WHO global (hybrid) meeting on skin-related neglected tropical diseases (skin NTDs) will be held from 27 to 31 March in Geneva and online. Over 600 global experts, partners and stakeholders are expected to attend, in person or virtually. Discussions will focus mainly on progress and challenges in implementing integrated skin NTD activities at country level, as underscored in the WHO NTD road map 2021–2030. Skin diseases are the third most prevalent cause of illness and one of the top 10 causes of disability. They are also among the 10 most common causes of outpatient visits. Of the 20 NTDs, more than half present with skin manifestations and are often associated with long-term disability, stigmatization and mental health problems. They all require similar detection through the examination of the skin, and case-management approaches that present opportunities for integration, which both increases cost–effectiveness and expands coverage. Also see: Hundreds to attend WHO’s first global meeting on skin NTDs The Quadripartite Partnership for One Health first executive annual meeting 27 and 28 March The Quadripartite, the collaborative work of FAO, WOAH, UNEP and WHO to address risks at the human-animal-ecosystems interface, is holding its first Quadripartite Executive Annual Meeting on 27-28 March 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting is organized by WHO as the current Quadripartite Chair, with the aim to review the progress and the on-going activities, highlight the key achievements and approve principal actions for the Quadripartite going forward. The opening remarks from the principals from the four agencies will be livestreamed at 09.00 CEST and a joint statement/Call to Action will be sent to the media on 27 March. An estimated 1.2 billion young people have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic response measures. Disruptions to education, employment, health services and social support have changed the future of an entire generation. To address these challenges, the world’s largest Big Six youth organizations initiated the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM) to harness the surge of youth-led activism and action, creative solutions, passion, and commitment, by investing much needed funds at a grassroots level and advocating for the role of young people in COVID-19 recovery and response efforts. 29 March 2023 Influenza – avian influenza H5: its evolution and associated risk 29 March, 12.00 – 13.00 CEST This EPI-WIN webinar will focus on the H5 avian influenza, how it evolves, and the risk associated with it for humans, including H5N1.
