Tuesday, 29 March Hear our voices: online premiere of three films made by older people It's time to listen to older people and find out what matters to them. In 2021, groups of older people from Canada, Jordan, and Togo were involved in a project to ensure their voices were prominent from the start of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030). The project used the participatory video methodology to meaningfully engage with older people and their lived experience, perspectives and expertise to find solutions to problems that matter to them. The project’s first stage resulted in three community-made films, capturing lessons learned from the process. Join us for the premiere screening event of the films on Tuesday,14:00–15:45 CET and gain insights into what older people think healthy ageing is, and their recommendations on how to create a world where all people can live long and healthy lives. Worldwide, more than 3 in 10 women and babies do not currently receive postnatal care in the first days after birth - the period when most maternal and infant deaths occur. This Wednesday will see the launch of a new WHO global postnatal care guideline to support maternal, newborn and child health in the crucial weeks after birth. Ahead of the launch, an Embargoed Virtual Press Conference will be held on Tuesday featuring Mercedes Semenas (Medical Officer, Sexual & Reproductive Health & Research Department) and Karen Edmond (Medical Officer and Pediatrician, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent & Ageing Department), who have led the guideline's production. They will be available to outline the issues raised in the guideline and answer your questions. A media advisory with connection details for the VPC will be sent next week. Wednesday, 30 March Online publication of the WHO global postnatal care guideline The WHO global postnatal care guideline will be posted online Wednesday. In addition to addressing immediate health concerns, the first weeks after birth are crucial for building relationships and establishing behaviours that affect long-term infant development and health. In total, the new guideline brings together over 60 recommendations that help shape a positive postnatal experience for women, babies and families. The new guideline will appear on this page. A media release will be issued to coincide with its publication. Thursday, 31 March New online training for caregivers of children with autism In the lead-up to World Autism Awareness Day on 2 April, WHO will release an online version of its training programme for caregivers of children with development delays or disabilities, such as autism. The in-person version of the training has already been piloted in more than 30 countries worldwide, including Ethiopia, India and the United States of America. The programme was well-accepted, with follow-up assessments indicating parents and other caregivers felt better able to engage with their children and more confident in their caregiving roles. They also experienced increased well-being. The new online training, available free-of-charge, will significantly increase accessibility of the programme.
