However, many of the new technologies that have come to market are unaffordable or unsuitable for low- and middle-income countries. To ensure that all countries benefit from health innovation, WHO has compiled a compendium of 24 new technologies that can be used in low-resource settings. It also takes stock of progress and ongoing challenges reported by countries in areas such as diagnosis, treatment and care, carer support, and research and innovation. The number of people living with dementia is expected to increase to 78 million by 2030. Embargoed materials will be available on request on 31 August. 3 September WHO will launch the Compendium of WHO and other UN guidance on health & environment. The compendium brings together around 500 actions aimed at reducing death and diseases driven by environmental risk factors, and it is the first such resource to unite this expertise from across the UN system. The online resource will provide easy access to practical actions for practitioners — among them policymakers, staff in relevant government ministries, local government, in-country UN personnel and other relevant decision makers — to scale up efforts at national, regional and local levels to create healthy environments that prevent disease.
