Monday, 31 OctoberWHO and WMO launch a new knowledge platform for climate and healthThe first global knowledge platform dedicated to climate and health - climahealth.info – will be launched by the Health Organization and World Meteorological Organization, with support from the Wellcome Trust. It is in response to growing calls for actionable information to protect people from the health risks of climate change and other environmental hazards. Climate and health are inextricably linked. Climate change, extreme weather events and environmental degradation have fundamental impact on human health and well-being. More people than ever before are exposed to increased climate-related health risks, from poor water and air quality to infectious diseases and heat stress. The information will be available here, at 9:00 am on Monday, 31 October. Monday, 31 OctoberWHO launches 4th Health for All Film FestivalJoin the movement for increasing health impact through film! The call for short films (up to 8 minutes long) opens on 31 October 2022 and will close on 31 January 2023. Three “GRAND PRIX” will be awarded, one for each main category, aligned with WHO’s major global public health goals: universal health coverage, health emergencies, better health and well-being. There will also be special prizes for films about climate change and health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, a student-produced film, and a very short film (1’ to 2’30” in length). Sharon Stone, critically acclaimed actress from the USA and public advocate of health and humanitarian issues, has confirmed that she will join the jury again in 2023, having participated in the 2022 festival. On the occasion of World Cities Day 2022, WHO and UN Habitat launch the Global framework for the response to malaria in urban areas. The Framework provides guidance to city government officials, health professionals and urban planners for a comprehensive malaria response specifically in urban areas, where the dynamics of transmission and burden of vector-borne diseases can be different from that of rural areas. Global media briefingAhead of the start of the COP27 UN Climate Conference, to be held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, from 6 to 18 November 2022, WHO will be holding a global press briefing on Thursday, 3 November at 14:00 CET to discuss our plans at the conference. WHO has many activities planned at COP, but the centrepiece for events will be the WHO Health Pavilion, which is set to host over 40 side events focused on climate change and health. The pavilion will also feature an eye-catching and innovative artistic installation, which will be unveiled at the start of the conference. The briefing will be led by Dr. Maria Neira, Director for Environment, Climate Change and Health, at the World Health Organization.
