On 7 April, the World Health Organization will celebrate World Health Day and its 75th anniversary. Events of interest include the opening of the photo exhibition "Picturing Health" (6 April, Geneva); global press conference (6 April, hybrid format); and Healing Arts concert, a WHO's musical "Merci" to the people of Geneva (8 April, Geneva). Global Forum on Human Resources for Health
3 to 5 April 2023
On Monday, 3 April at 09.30 CEST, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General and Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein of Jordan, WHO patron of nursing and midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, will open the Fifth Global Forum on Human Resources for Health.
The Forum will take place from 3 to 5 April 2023 in Geneva, during World Health Worker Week*, under the theme of Protecting, safeguarding, and investing in the health and care workforce. It will be a hybrid event, with speakers in high-level roundtable dialogues participating in-person, while parallel sessions and other learning and networking activities will be held virtually (see the programme in full)

*3 to 7 April 2023 - World Health Workers Week is celebrated in the first week of April, to coincide with World Health Day. The theme for 2023 is “invest in health workers”. The Week aims to support, appreciate and raise awareness of the important role of health workers everywhere, and is an opportunity to mobilize communities, partners and policy makers in support of health workers.

Launch of the new estimates on infertility prevalence worldwide

On Tuesday, 4 April, WHO will publish its first estimates of infertility prevalence in over a decade. The report provides insight into global and regional infertility prevalence by analysing all relevant studies from 1990 to 2021, taking into account different estimation approaches used by original research studies.
Essential for tracking progress in fertility care coverage, these estimates will highlight the magnitude of infertility as a public health issue globally and the need to expand access to prevention, diagnosis and treatments.
An embargoed press conference will take place on Monday, 3 April at 13.30 CEST, during which WHO experts will discuss the findings and implications of the new report. Role of communities in cholera vaccination campaigns

The third Community Crowdsource event in Cholera Webinar Series will focus on the role of communities in cholera vaccination campaigns.
The series shares lessons, experiences and best practices from communities responding to cholera on the ground to communities. It is hosted by the World Health Organization Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Team in partnership with the Collective Service.

Opening of the "Picturing Health" photography exhibition
3 April to 1 May 2023
WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, together with the Mayor of Geneva and other friends of WHO, will open the "Picturing Health" exhibition on 6 April at 10.00 CEST at Quai Wilson in Geneva. Media and the public are welcome to attend.
More than 50 photographs in celebration of WHO's 75th anniversary will be exhibited at Geneva's Quai Wilson from 3 April to 1 May 2023. The photos, carefully selected from WHO’s collection of over 58 000 images, document many of the public health successes over the past 75 years and highlight current and future health challenges. Included are images by renowned photographers such as Robert Doisneau, Paul Almasy and Jean Mohr.

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health conditions (MHC) contribute heavily to global premature mortality, morbidity and disability, yet they remain the most underfunded public health issues. Without action, 150 million adults (aged 30 to 70 years) will die prematurely from NCDs in the next 10 years.
This NCD Hard Talk session will explore key challenges for NCDs and MHC financing, lessons from country experiences, and will feature a frank discussion on emerging solutions.

'Emergency care saves lives 25 x 25 x 25'

Inspired by members of the WHO Nursing and Midwifery Global Community of Practice, the 25 x 25 x 25 campaign is designed to close this gap and bring basic emergency care training to 25% of nurses and midwives from 25 partner countries by the end of 2025.
The webinar will introduce the 25 x 25 x 25 campaign as a mechanism to improve global health and share data, stories and experiences about implementing emergency care training in health care settings to demonstrate impact and value of the campaign.

World Health Day and WHO's 75th anniversary
On 7 April, WHO will mark 75 years of improving public health so that everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health and well-being. This landmark anniversary comes at a time when the world is at a confluence of crisis; emerging from the worst pandemic in recent history; and as people the world over contend with rising obesity, diabetes, hypertension, climate-caused diseases and more.
WHO’s 75th anniversary year is an opportunity to look back at public health successes that have improved quality of life during the last seven decades. It is also an opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today and tomorrow.
