Monday, 12 December 2022 Universal Health Coverage Day WHO Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day) on 12 December allows advocates for UHC to share stories, call on leaders to make smarter investments in health and remind the world about the imperative of UHC. It is an official United Nations-designated day that marks the anniversary of the unanimous endorsement of UHC in 2012 as an essential priority for international development. WHO will mark UHC Day in few ways, including with an event at the FIFA Fan Festival in Doha, Qatar, on the eve of the World Cup semi-finals. WHO and football icons Didier Drogba, WHO Ambassador for Sport and Health, and Alisson Becker, goalkeeper for Brazil and Liverpool, and WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Health Promotion, will call on people across the world to move for ‘Health for All’. A press release will follow on this and is due to be issued on Monday. Also on Monday, WHO will be releasing two innovative products: 1. The Universal Health Coverage Service Package Delivery and Implementation Tool or UHC SPDI Tool will be launched to support countries in designing and implementing comprehensive health service packages to meet the needs of their populations. The Tool will be available here from Monday, 12 December. 2. A digital knowledge hub for the public called, ‘Your life, your health: Tips and information for health and wellbeing,’ will be launched which will provide people across different life phases with trustworthy health information that they can easily access, understand and use in daily life. Tuesday, 13 December 2022 Launch of the WHO manual on sugar-sweetened beverage taxation policies to promote healthy diets WHO is launching its first-ever global tax manual on sugar-sweetened beverages. An online event will mark the occasion with health experts and country representatives to share success stories on the implementation of sugar-sweetened beverages. Evidence shows that implementation of taxes on sweetened drinks drives down consumption and can be an opportunity to invest in health. There will be a webinar on the manual on Tuesday at 16:00 CET. Wednesday, 14 December 2022 WHO launch of the UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS) 2022 report The Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS) 2022 report details the latest status of drinking-water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems in more than 120 countries and is based on the largest data collection on the topic from the greatest number of countries to date. Findings from WHO GLAAS report show that acceleration is needed in many countries to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 – water and sanitation for all by 2030. The report sets the scene for action ahead of a historic water and sanitation gathering planned in 2023. For the first time in 50 years, the global community—through the United Nations—will review progress at the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York from 22 to 24 March 2023. A press release will follow.
