Monday, 12 July New recommendations on human genome editing WHO will launch two new companion reports providing the first global recommendations to help ensure that human genome editing is used for public health, with an emphasis on safety, effectiveness and ethics. State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2021 The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World is an annual flagship publication series that monitors progress towards globally agreed food security and nutrition targets, presenting and analyzing global, regional and country-level trends, and providing in-depth analyses on emerging issues to inform decision making and contribute to the achievement of ending hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all its forms. This year’s edition is the first global assessment of its kind in the pandemic era, and is jointly published by FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO. The report launch will take place at the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) on Monday at 16:00 CEST. Register here. Tuesday, 13 July WHO-supported HLPF side events Equity in the era of COVID-19 and the SDGs: Improving Accountability for the Health and Rights of Vulnerable Women, Children and Adolescents Don’t miss this action-oriented side event at 13:30 CEST Tuesday hosted by the Government of Estonia and co-organized by PMNCH, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO and the International Health Partnership for UHC 2030 (UHC2030). The event will call on policy makers, political leaders and other stakeholders to commit for greater accountability and multisectoral action to address the inequities experienced by women, children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic response and recovery. Leaving No One Behind in Routine Immunizations: Spotlight on Measles Resurgence and the Threat to Child Survival in the Times of COVID-19 Measles outbreaks are a key indicator that national immunization programs lack equitable access to and utilization of immunization services and that public health systems need to be strengthened.
