Ponzi scheme trial: The public will be allowed in the courtroom during the long-awaited trial in the billion-dollar Stanford Trust Ponzi scheme, as testimony is expected to begin today. The Louisiana Supreme Court considered blocking public access to aspects of the trial. The Office of Financial Institutions is the defendant in the class-action lawsuit. Nearly 1,000 Louisiana retirees who invested their life savings into fraudulent certificates of deposit, or CDs, bought through Stanford Trust Company, the international bank’s Baton Rouge arm, are suing OFI.
