Finding, hiring, and managing a rockstar team is one of the most important elements to any successful business.
So WHY does it always seem so hard to get the right people?
If you’ve ever struggled with this…
Don’t worry — you’re definitely not alone.
To help make things easier on you…
Here’s some quick advice I’ve recently shared with clients. Q: “Craig, how many people should I interview to find a good person?”
My Answer:
In his book Be Obsessed or Be Average, Grant Cardone admits to interviewing 800 people for just four positions.
Of the 4 he hired, two of them flamed out and failed within 90 days.
Here’s a guy who has interviewed thousands of people over his career…
… and even he can’t get it right.
Maybe it’s just Cardone?
Nope.
Look at McDonald’s…
One of the world’s biggest companies…
And even they can’t get it right when it comes to hiring…
In 2015 they hired Steve Easterbrook as CEO…
Four years later they had to fire him due to sexual misconduct.
Listen, no one will ever be perfect at hiring… because we’re dealing with emotional, irrational humans.
BTW… the answer to your question is “an unlimited number.”
Because your search should never stop. It should be ongoing.
You should always be meeting smart, high-caliber people and asking yourself…
“How can I get them to work for me?” Q: “What do you look for in team members?”
My Answer:
I love it when ETR team members are proactive.
Members of our sales team are always proactively sending me sales ideas.
Our coaches are always proactively creating new content and troubleshooting our programs to make them even better.
Our marketing team is constantly coming up with new lead gen methods & promotional ideas to grow the business and make my life easier.
And Lynda, the world’s best executive assistant, is always proactively protecting my time.
A Proactive team member is worth three reactive team members who only do something when they are given orders from above.
That’s a “missing link” trait that I look for.
=====
Anyway…
I hope this sheds some light on what goes into recruiting the right team to scale your business to the next level.
Always be looking for good people…
And encourage and reward good people for being proactive (most will be anyway).
Success Loves Speed,
Craig
