We caught up with Peter Gallagher, who's starring in Left on Tenth, Delia Ephron’s stage adaptation of her memoir. He explains what’s drawing him, and every other A-lister, to the “richness and the terror” of New York theater. Plus:

Hollywood’s Leading Men Are Fleeing to Broadway. Peter Gallagher Knows Why.

George Clooney. Denzel Washington. Robert Downey Jr. Keanu Reeves. Adam Driver. Jake Gyllenhaal. The list goes on.

All these A-list actors have something in common: they’re ditching Hollywood in the next year to do a play in New York, some on Broadway, some off. The question is: why? When every single one of these leading men could choose to do easier and more lucrative film or TV projects, why would they subject themselves to the rigors of live theater?

“I read somewhere that the three most stressful occupations for the human body are a test pilot, a soldier in combat and an actor on opening night,” Peter Gallagher told us. “And I believe that.” We caught up with the prolific actor, best known for shows like The O.C. and Grace and Frankie, to talk about why he’s returning to Broadway in Left on Tenth, and why seemingly every other actor of the big and small screen is joining him on the Great White Way.

Yesterday, we asked you about your favorite Oktoberfest beer. You all submitted a huge variety, but Spaten and Sam Adams were the clear winners.

Together, they offer practical advice on what to look for and provide product recommendations for each category. As the seasons switch, your grooming regimen remains essential but also must adapt. We’re here to help inform and simplify.

How New York’s Bridges Became the Secret Weapon of City Runners

Charles Stahler used to run back and forth across the Brooklyn Bridge every single day.

Forty-five years ago, he’d look up at the Watchtower’s clock to chart how long it took him to traverse the East River. He remembers the tower stairs as “good training,” but acknowledges — as the city did in 1982, when it removed them for good — that they were an impediment to cyclists. Stahler lives in Maryland now, but a few weeks ago, finding himself in New York, he went back to the Brooklyn Bridge. He managed a light jog.

Like much of the city’s beleaguered infrastructure, New York’s bridges don’t command much respect.
