What does a Supreme Court ruling mean for overtime pay?
(Kent Nishimura/Getty Images)
Employees who are paid day rates may qualify for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act, according to a US Supreme Court ruling. Survey research conducted by Indeed found that about half of Black respondents were looking for a new position or thinking about doing so, and just 47% felt their current employers' diversity, equity and inclusion efforts were matching up with stated core values. Forty-three percent of the Black respondents who planned to quit reported that they had been the target of microaggressions from company leaders or coworkers, while 78% said pay transparency was their top consideration in a future employer, 63% prioritized personal and company value alignment, and 60% said a diverse leadership group was most important.

The HR Leader
Why -- and how -- to exercise creativity, imagination
(Anthony Harvie/Getty Images)
Leaders -- much less their teams -- can't come up with imaginative and original solutions to the problems that vex them without taking time to create a habit of making time for imagination, writes Alaina Love, the CEO of Purpose Linked Consulting. How do you jump start creativity and imagination?

For me, it’s riding Old South Mountain Road -- a quiet, seven-mile stretch of back road that sits at the foot of the mountains of Santa Paula, Calif.. As I turn up 12th Street and head over the bridge, I can almost feel my creative engines revving up. They keep firing as I ride the curves and straightaways, past the ranches and fields of lemon and avocado trees. My mind relaxes and ideas start springing up. Some ideas fade quickly, others show signs of promise.

Exercising creativity and imagination is critical to the work we do, says Alaina Love in  our HR Leaders story today. “We solve problems from a different mindset when we make space for imagination. It jump-starts a powerful cascade of events, with imagination triggering an inspiration and that inspiration leading to a new creative outcome. You can’t access creativity without making space for imagination,” she writes.

Creativity is a real skill set and requires regular practice. How do you nurture this? Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
