Why Are Males Struggling?

Males, it seems, are struggling. Perhaps you’ve seen some of the statistics. Boys have lower grades than their female counterparts and are significantly less likely to graduate from college. They also engage in more anti-social behavior and are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol. And whenever there’s a mass shooting, there’s only one question no one must ask: what sex is the shooter?

What’s behind this male malaise? A new book on the topic, Of Boys and Men, explores it in depth. Jeff Haanenis reviews the book and asks how we as Christians can help boys and men who are struggling.

While we’re on the topic, I want to encourage you to check out our resource, Ministry to Men. This newly updated 14-page resource will equip leaders to be effective at galvanizing men into becoming better fathers, husbands, sons, and followers of Jesus.

Ministry to Men
The statistics are sobering: over the years, male attendance in church has steadily dropped to its current rate of less than 40 percent. How can your church energize the men in your congregation, and draw more men into the life of your church? Men's ministries can successfully serve as an entry point into your church or be an effective discipleship element for those already part of your church. But building and growing a men's ministry takes time, effort, and wisdom.
