Why Charitable Contributions Statements Still Matter for Your Donors

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act included a provision that significantly increased the standard deduction for tax-filers. This means the number of people who can itemize deductions for things like charitable giving has significantly declined.

Despite this change, churches are encouraged to provide statements for charitable contributions, mainly as a best practice, but also because some people will still be able to itemize. Perhaps most importantly, these statements offer the chance to recognize and thank individuals and families for giving to your church. Such gestures reinforce relationships and present opportunities for the church to share how these contributions support ministry and change lives.

As December 31 now comes into view, our annual charitable contributions bulletin inserts are an effective tool for reminding congregants about their opportunities to give before 2019 ends. The inserts offer information in an easy-to-follow Q&A style. And the downloadable PDF format allows you to purchase and print the quantity you need for bulletins, newsletters, or statements you plan to provide.

While tax laws have changed, don’t miss this moment to encourage and thank the givers of your church—and help them with information they may need for tax-filing purposes.
