🎄 Americans Reveal Their Favorite Holidays |
America just celebrated the Fourth of July. |
In addition to Independence Day, it also happens during the heart of summer and involves fireworks, hot dogs and being on or in the water. |
It made us wonder: what are America’s favorite holidays? |
YouGov recently conducted a survey, and the results are clear. Christmas is the national favorite. Thanksgiving claims a clear second place. |
After that, the debate for No. 3 is full of disagreement. Halloween, Easter, Mother’s Day, Fourth of July, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day make strong cases. |
YouGov didn’t ask “what is your favorite holiday?” Rather, it asked Americans “which comes closest to your view about the following day?” The six potential responses for each day: |
This is my favorite day of the year. I enjoy this day more than an average day. I enjoy this day about as much as an average day. I enjoy this day less than an average day. This is my least favorite day of the year. Not sure. |
As a result, the percentage that said “this is my favorite day of the year” adds up to much more than 100%. Still, here is the top 10 based on “favorite day” results: |
Christmas: 36% Thanksgiving: 23% Halloween: 15% Easter: 13% Mother’s Day: 13% Fourth of July: 12% New Year’s Eve: 12% New Year’s Day: 12% Father’s Day: 8% Valentine’s Day: 8% |
The margin of error on the survey was 3.7%. So six different days could claim the No. 3 spot. |
Plus, for example, the Fourth of July had just 12% say it’s closest to their favorite day of the year vs. 15% for Halloween. But for the second option, “I enjoy this day more than average,” the Fourth of July drew 42% of the responses. Halloween got just 28% there. |
Super Bowl Sunday got the second-highest percentage for “this is my least-favorite day of the year” at 13%. |
