Red Bull’s Formula 1 driver roster moves in a mysterious way. You’d think its primary purpose would be to nurture exciting talent, harness that potential and develop the athlete into a rounded individual that’s capable of performing to their maximum.
Yet its ruthlessness reflects Helmut Marko’s personality: Only the best will do for him. Perform quickly or get shouted at and ultimately (after 10 races) be cast aside.
Of course, Max Verstappen’s lust for domination must have Marko purring. “Be like Max or get out!” – you can almost visualise him saying it, can’t you?
Nyck de Vries is a very quick racing driver. His main problem? He isn’t Verstappen – although Marko argues he wasn’t even Yuki Tsunoda.
