"It's important to match the patient populations that we serve because it's an expectation." — Caroline Njau, MBA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, Children's Minnesota

Though healthcare disparities stepped to the forefront as COVID-19 dominated the landscape, Children's Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, had been attacking the problem head-on for five years by improving its diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Children's Minnesota has taken a "trendsetting approach" to diversity, equity, and inclusion to make healthcare better for every patient who walks through their doors, says Caroline Njau, MBA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, the hospital's chief nursing officer (CNO) and senior vice president of patient care services.

For this week's lead story, I talked with Njau about why diversity matters.
