Record 24 races in 2023 includes random grouping

It’s great that Formula 1 is living through a huge surge of interest, and more eyeballs than ever means extra revenue for the business sides of the sport (there’s a ‘but’ coming).

But the high hopes I have whenever an F1 boss says grouping the season by regions makes sense – because it clearly does – have been dashed once again. And, although I realize some events are locked-in with dates for multi-year contracts, it’s fair to call F1 out when more sensible grouping again doesn’t happen.

You’d think people who travel so much wouldn’t need a geography lesson, or perhaps they care more for their air miles than the environment – it’s 133,570km going from one race to the other without any visits home next year!

Then there’s the human toll this takes on the personnel involved: F1 teams must be harking back to the days when they had different staff for the race team and a test team, but that’s not feasible either now with the budget cap.

There has to be a better solution than this.
