New Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali might have started his role on January 1, but like the majority of us, the COVID-19 pandemic has made his life difficult so far.

Stranded in Italy, rather than taking his place in F1’s London offices, Domenicali is forced to begin his rule by Zoom calls, rather than building face-to-face relationships. “That’s the way it is,” he sighs.

Expect the health crisis to be a constant thorn this year, as F1 juggles its act amid fast-changing government policies as it attempts to execute a full schedule. Already, with the Australian GP postponed, the worrying rise of case numbers in Portugal is leaning us towards a Bahrain double header to kick off the season.  

Despite this tricky backdrop, Domenicali is determined to push F1 forwards and build a “fantastic” platform. And that should be music to everyone’s ears.

Now in charge of Formula 1's reins, Stefano Domenicali has got to work in underlining his future plans for the championship. Although the COVID-19 pandemic still lingers in the short term, he has grand designs on F1's future as a spectacle.
