A petition spearheaded by the Parents Television and Media Council calling on Disney to remove sexually-explicit content in its children's programming and on entertainment platforms owned by the corporation has garnered more than 10,000 signatures. "A young female character performs a sex act on herself. A teacher and her minor student have an illicit, and illegal, sexual relationship that is romanticized. A female teen finds out her dad is the Antichrist. All of these are scenes and/or themes from programs that currently air on Disney-owned platforms. All are targeted toward our youth," PTC Vice President Melissa Henson stated. "The Disney Board of Directors cannot stand idly by while the company produces and makes available sexually themed content targeted to children." Read more.
Multiple stars have announced a boycott of Bud Light after the beer brand named trans-identified activist Dylan Mulvaney a brand spokesperson to "authentically connect with audiences." Musician Kid Rock posted an Instagram video showing him using an assault rifle to fire at cases of Bud Light in a field by a body of water. "Let me say something to all you and be as clear and concise as possible. F— Bud Light. F— Anheuser-Busch. Have a terrific day," he stated. Music stars John Rich and Travis Tritt also called for a boycott over the beer brand's influencer partnership with Mulvaney, a biological male who is known for publicly detailing his gender transition on TikTok. "What beer should my bar [Redneck Riviera] in Nashville replace #BudLight with?" Rich tweeted. Meanwhile, Tritt tweeted that he plans to remove all products from his tour hospitality rider made by Anheuser-Busch—the originally American beer company that produces Bud Light which Belgium-based AB InBev now owns. "I know many other artists are doing the same," Tritt wrote. Read more.
A forensic review of Hillsong Church's finances by accounting firm Grant Thornton does not support allegations that the Australia-based megachurch network or its personnel engaged in "unlawful conduct." Allegations that funds were misappropriated reflect a "misunderstanding" that should be discussed in a "church context," attorneys say. In a confidential March 30 letter to Hillsong Church that was shared anonymously with CP, Prolegis Lawyers said a forensic review of the church's financial records that was started by Grant Thornton in 2022 "do not support allegations that there has been unlawful conduct by entities that use the name Hillsong or its personnel." Christian leaders addressed the rise in attacks against Christians in Jerusalem in an Easter message from a coalition of "Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem" under Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III. The leaders warned the rise in attacks has come "in spite of our agreements to cooperate with the governing authorities, and to accommodate any reasonable requests that they might present." They called on the international community and "local residents of goodwill" to help secure the safety, access, and religious freedom of Christian residents and the millions of Christian pilgrims who visit the Holy Land each year. In an interview with CP, five-time Grammy nominee Chloe Bailey, who stars in the new gospel music film "Praise This," discussed how starring in the role allowed her to merge her love of God and music. "Music is what heals us, as well as God. So when you have these two forces that bring such love to the forefront, it's an incredibly powerful thing," she explained. The film sees Bailey star as Sam, an ambitious and talented musical artist in the making who finds herself, against her will, forced to join her cousin's struggling church choir in Atlanta. "Praise This," which is currently available on Peacock, is not explicitly faith-based, but is infused with musical numbers that see popular R&B and rap songs turned into gospel tunes. Learn more.
During an appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show," actor and outspoken Christian Chris Pratt opened up about meeting his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, at church and how she helped "save" him amid his brokenness. "I was in the front row of church—which is like, you kind of don’t want to be like, 'Woah, who's that?' at church. You know what I mean?" Pratt explained. "But I was sneaking some glances and wondering, 'Who is that? Anyway, what am I doing? Come on, I'm broken, help me. But who's that?'" The actor believes their love story was part of God's plan and that sometimes love can happen quickly when it's right, telling Barrymore, "God has a fast-forward button. When it's right—boom!—you're hit. You fall in love, you get married." Read more.
