Why Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Just Made an Ad for a Welsh Trailer Manufacturer

OK we got used to Ryan Reynolds selling gin. Then he started promoting mobile plans, and eventually that started to seem normal.

But what are we to make of Reynolds selling us on...livestock trailers?

In the oddest advertising turn yet for the actor/investor, he today launched video promoting Ifor Williams Trailers, North Wales' leading provider of livestock transportation. And joining him was Rob McElhenney of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame.

So what's the deal?

The ad is basically just a nice gesture from the two actors, who are finalizing the process of purchasing Wrexham AFC, a Welsh soccer team that dates back to 1864.

Ifor Williams is the team's kit sponsor, so Reynolds and McElhenney decided to throw in an ad as a thanks for the company's support before it had this new influx of star power behind it.

You can check out my article on the ad and the story behind the Wrexham purchase on Adweek.

If money were no object, which sports team would you buy? Personally I'd take ownership of minor league baseball's Trash Pandas in my beloved hometown of Huntsville, Ala. Let me know your pick at the email below or at @Griner on Twitter.
