Gov. Whitmer accused Trump of inciting domestic terrorism for encouraging “lock her up” chants days after the kidnapping plot against her

On Saturday, President Donald Trump held a rally in Michigan, days after the FBI busted a domestic terror plot to kidnap and potentially murder Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The governor accused the president of encouraging “lock her up” chants, and told NBC she found Trump’s action “incredibly disturbing” and “dangerous.”

Trump, who has frequently targeted Whitmer's policies to help contain the spread of coronavirus in her state, told the crowd, “You’ve got to get your governor to open up your state and get your schools open.”

This prompted the crowd to chant “lock her up” while Trump smiled and said “lock them all up.”

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, the Trump campaign said that while the plot against the governor was “reprehensible,” it was “also true that the people of Michigan want their economy opened back up.”

The wait in Matamoros, Mexico is dangerous. Thousands of immigrants and asylum-seekers, many from Central America, Cuba, and Venezuela, live in donated tents in city streets and parks, while the threat of being kidnapped by criminal groups looms.

Immigrants endured these conditions even though their US immigration cases dragged on for months. The wait was difficult, but at least there was the promise of a future court date.

That’s gone now. Citing the coronavirus pandemic, the Trump administration stopped holding hearings indefinitely. Combine that with dangerous conditions inside the camp, and immigrants have been driven to try and enter the US undetected.

That desperation has forced some to pay smugglers to get them into the US, a route immigrant families generally avoided because they couldn’t afford it, and because of how dangerously remote the routes are in order to avoid being caught by Border Patrol agents.
