Why IT Certification Matters

A Cert for Career Progression

IT leaders are increasingly fighting to get staff with the right skills into their organizations. In turn those building a career in IT are turning to IT Certification to develop and prove their worth. This week we reported on the most valuable IT certifications you can earn to boost your salary in 2025.

This caused the readers of CIO.com to ask Smart Answers why it is that certain certificates are worth more than others. The answer, of course, is demand, with IT certifications in machine learning and cloud computing considered to be of the most value because they are the areas in which organizations most need skilled people.

Find out Why are certain IT certifications high value?

Replaced by AI?

The impact of AI on the human workforce is a very hot topic. When this week we reported that CRM vendor Freshworks laid off 660 people — about 13 percent of its global workforce — despite strong earnings and profit reports speculation was rife that AI was a factor.

This prompted readers to ask Smart Answers - an AI tool, but not one that replaces journalists - if AI can replace humans in the workforce. The answers, curated from years of editorial reportage, is that yes we should expect AI to make inroads into contact center operations, translation, accounting, and machinery inspection. Perhaps more pertinent: it predicted that 20% to 25% of tech jobs could eventually be taken over by AI, although that will in turn create some demand for different human roles.

Find out Can AI replace human workers in certain industries?

AI Disasters

Insights from data and machine learning algorithms can be invaluable, but mistakes can be irreversible. We reported on some recent high-profile AI blunders that illustrate what can go wrong

Our readers asked Smart Answers about the legal risks incurred when AI goes wrong. The news is not great! AI inaccuracies can lead to legal risks for companies, including potential violations of antidiscrimination laws and company policies, which could result in liabilities. So ensure you put good data in, and have some human oversight.

Find out: What legal risks do companies face from AI inaccuracies?
