Jenson Button re-signing for Williams – this time as senior advisor rather than as a 19-year-old rookie driver – is the kind of feel-good story we need right now. Back in 2000, Button made his name with Williams. The youngest-ever driver to score a point at the time, in the Brazilian GP, I recall going to lunch with him in Covent Garden following a pre-British GP event. He was absolutely buzzing, with his recently-purchased yellow Ferrari parked up at the local NCP, and his first home grand prix ahead of him. Odd to think back now that he would never race again for Williams after his debut season – although he was contracted to it for multiple seasons afterwards! The new management team has made some good moves so far, after taking over from the Williams family. And there’s a great opportunity here to move this famous name up towards the sharp end of the F1 grid, where it really belongs. Charles Bradley, Global Editor in Chief Motorsport.com |

Jenson Button's return to Williams is a welcome feel-good story, but its re-signing of the driver it handed a Formula 1 debut back in 2000 could also be a shrewd move in its mission to move up the grid, says Luke Smith. |
