NASCAR and its appeals panel have made some rather odd decisions of late, but its call to ban Bubba Wallace from Sunday’s Cup race in Miami was absolutely correct after what happened at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Even before he walked over and physically shoved Kyle Larson, Wallace’s on-track behavior to swerve into his right-rear quarter panel and intentionally wreck him, seconds after a clash during a regular tight racing situation, simply can’t be allowed – especially on a fast, mean oval like Vegas. It reminded me of the Carl Edwards/Brad Keselowski feud that was allowed to get totally out of hand over a decade ago, leading to a horrible flip in Atlanta that Keselowski was fortunate to walk away from. I get the ‘have at it’ attitude towards drivers, it helps make NASCAR what it is and everyone loves driver rivalries, but there has to be a boundary. I’m glad NASCAR has drawn its line very clearly.
