Grant Cardone says you need to work 95 hours per week if you want to become a millionaire...
And Gary Vee claims you have to work 18 hours a day just for your business to succeed.
Listen, I get it…
Working hard always seems like a good idea — especially if you assume the alternative is slacking off.
But here’s what Grant and Gary DON’T know:
172 years of research proves working long hours kills profits and productivity, and is bad for your health. In fact, the 40-hour work week was actually invented to INCREASE productivity... When Henry Ford famously shortened the work week at Ford Motor Company — productivity soared and business boomed. “But Craig, if I squeeze in a few more hours I can get more done, Right??” WRONG. A mountain of data from both the US and UK shows you work faster, think sharper, and are more creative during your first 2-6 hours of work… But AFTER 6 to 7 hours… work quality and output both rapidly decline.
Recent Stanford University research backs this up…
They found beyond a 55 hour work week… productivity drops off a cliff.
The study showed people putting in up to 70 hours per week were so unproductive in this extra time…
They didn’t get ANY more work done than those who stopped at 55 hours.
So if working more hours is useless, how do we get ahead?
The answer is simple, but not obvious…
You have to shift your focus from “work ethic”... to work efficiency.
A common problem for the prideful “hard worker”...
Is that all too often, they end up working just for work’s sake.
They try to answer every email and solve every problem that comes up…
Even if it has ZERO impact on the outcome they’re trying to achieve.
But when you just spend 4-6 hours per day focused strictly on tasks that drive real results…
You’ll accomplish more in less time and hit your big goals at warp speed (AND feel less obligated to work 24/7).
There's a Greek legend that explains this surprisingly well:
As Alexander the Great expanded his empire with one of the most devastating military campaigns in history…
He eventually arrived in Gordion, the capital of ancient Turkey.
There he discovered the Palace of Gordion had a strange monument…
An ox-cart tied to a pillar with a knot so badly tangled, it was said to be impossible to undo.
The legend of the Gordian Knot stated that any man who could unravel the knot and free the cart, was destined to become the ruler of all of Asia.
Many men had spent weeks… months… even years laboring over the knot to no avail.
Of course Alexander wanted to untie the knot, but struggled to do so.
He then reasoned that it made no difference how the knot was undone…
So he drew his sword and sliced it in half with a single stroke.
Why do I share this story?
Because it illustrates an important point:
Success is about results. NOT activity.
The fastest simplest way to get the result you desire almost always brings you more success… less stress… and a better quality of life.
Don’t get me wrong, “high-yield” work like this can still demand a lot of skill and energy…
But when you’re laser-focused only on what moves the needle…
You’ll get more done without burning out.
The biggest challenge is finding the most efficient systems and strategies that produce the best results.
